I keep my eyes open for brewpubs while traveling the Western States and British Columbia. I saw the billboard just west of Helena and found the brewpub.
I could not believe how good the Tumbleweed IPA was. I also had Halibut and Chips and this was outstanding also. The tap room is upstairs as of fall 2006 and the ambience was great also.
I would make a special trip to Montana to drink visit this brewpub again. I'm from the Seattle area and we have many good microbrews here too.

Waiter made this visit the best, he was very helpful in the beer selection. We are from Pa and not familar with the local brepubs. The food was fantastic and the pints went down easily. This was a great find for us and it was all due to it being listed on Pubcrawlers. This stop was in teh middle of our ten-day trip in the west. We will definately come back. Thanks for the memories.

Name changed from Sleeping Giant to Lewis & Clark back on 8/1/04. Tap Room located downstairs in the back of the brewery offers FREE samples (normally 8 to 10 beers on tap) and also FREE Brewery tours by appointment. Restaurant upstairs (BrewHouse) is a seperate business and normally has 6 to 8 beers from the brewery downstairs on tap.

Visited this brewery a couple of times, the first we just went to the taproom which is located downstairs. The bartender was very rude although I don't hold it against the place (she wasn't from MT). The service was very good the second time I visited. Their most famous beer, the L & C Lager I feel is very much overhyped. However their IPA is one of the best I've ever had. Worth a visit, however their beer doesn't compare to Blackfoot River Brewing in Helena.

I've visited twice and rally enjoyed the place. The food is pretty good, and the beer very, very good. Three stouts on tap and really good selection of other stuff. Really friendly servers and staff made for an enjoyable visit.

We were in Helena for a week and were there 4 of 5 nights! The only night we weren't there was when it snowed a foot!! The beers are great, the food is tasty and plentiful! The Moose Drool was very tasty and ful bodies. The Back Country Scottish Ale was my personal favorite!! THEY ALSO HAVE A TAPROOM IN THE BASEMENT!! I told the owner I'd mention that!!! They have some of the same beers as upstairs, but also have some you cannot get upstairs. So go say hello to Jody, Mac & Jim and you will NOT be disappointed!! Others I was with had the Pale Ales and the Hefe. No one had a bad word for any of the brews!! So no matter what you like...light or dark, mild or with a bite, they have it and it's all good!!

My wife & I dislike wheat beers, never found one we liked. The Miner's Gold Hefeweizen was INCREDIBLE. It was smooth, refreshing and very drinkable. It was crisp and dry without the sweetness. AWESOME!
We also tried the Prickly Pear Pale Ale, Back Country Scottish Ale, Vigilante Alt Beer and Big Belt WeizenBock. All were very good especially the Big Belt.
Thanks to Schmitty for all the time and attention.

Food Service at this pub varies tremendously...From good to lousy...Not very consistant...The calamari is great most of the time and they have a wonderful baked Brie...Not bad for Helena but not the best either...Sometimes you have to beg to get a second beer
